The 2007 edition called Edition Kan Makan is held from the 8th to
the 26th July in Lomé, Agbodrafo and Ayome –Edifou. Ayome
and Edifou are two villages in plateau region in TOGO a country of
the West Africa. It is organized by the Kadam-Kadam Association in
collaboration with A.D.E.C.A.ED (Association pour le Développement
des Communautés Ayomé et Edifou).
The group was given a warmful welcome by the local authorities the
day of their arrival. Despite the badness of the weather, elders,
villagers were under the rain with their traditional music’s
instruments to make the volunteers feel at their ease. In a traditional
way elders by thanking the almighty God beseech the benediction for
the journey.
It is important to notice the way the villagers have welcomed the
program of the staying of the group in fact the program was about:

The fight against the poverty
The presentation of some plays, some shows and
The Kadam-Kadam Association is proposed to achieve an important goal
in term of education, formation, fight against the poverty, fight
against the AIDS, research on Culture and Arts.
Ayome and Edifou theirself are an exceptional place of tourism due
to their plentiful riches thus the members have given some concert
live and some other things
Of the festival during their staying have discovered the magnificent
forest the rivers and hills of
The village the beautiful waterfall of Ayome is also discovered and
appreciated by most of the people
The first thing to remark is the “school support” which
was successful because of the way the youth was mobilized. Moreover
the schoolboys were interested by the program and were at the meeting
all the time to improve their knowledge they were through the time
able to express themselves in French and English.
The interest the high student attached to English has to be remark
even though they have some difficulties they happy when trying as
we all know practice makes perfect.
We think it is no worth to talk about all the subject as we can they
have managed somehow
To do their best moreover the level of the youth was put into high
in the domain of Arts and Culture
We assist on the successful collaboration of Black and White for the
developpement of the community and the culture.
During the journey of the group, many things are performed in term
of Art and Culture, people learnt how to play drums, and how to have
a T-shirt decorated how to practice music and how to dance.
One aspect of the activities was the expose and the commentary on
the novel “Journal d’une Bonne” written by Dissirama
BOUTORA-TAKPA. The novel was a price of France-Togo 2002 Haho edition.
It took place in a good atmosphere with the youth of all ages Moral
lessons are plentiful in the novel and have made the discussion more
interesting
The subject mater of the novel was about the life story of an innocent
girl of seven after the
Death of her parent has suffered a lot for the sake of the humanity,
I mean the society. The end of the heroine was pitiful because of
her down fall misfortune. Needless to say the evil of the society
brings the heroine into death she was no doubt a tragic heroine. You
can imagine how it seems interesting and educating to discuss with
a writer of such a novel. Our luck was that Dissirama was with us
to help us getting the message he wants to convey to his audience
In the 18th at 9Pm a special night took place it was the African
night. It was special because of its successful organization. Thus
some African cultural and traditional riches were shown to all the
spectators including the European present in the manifestation. Songs
in the rhythm of drums were executed and dances followed.
Moreover the traditional Africa s culture and art were on the stage.
The Kadam Kadam association has done more than we can expect from
them .Then people will remember these special days .Finally people
will talk about them in other places.
Two days after was a memorable day due to things that happened. As
we have known earlier about the African night we are not surprised
by the successful organization of the European night. In that night
some of the European culture and tradition were performed in many
ways.
Even though they were not a lot to perform things they have succeeded
by doing their best campaigned by Africans. Oh you can’t imagine
how the night will end. Before the end, the night became practically
African’s because things have automatically changed due to the
arrival of drams and other Africa music’s instruments.
The Camp chantier Ekua-Ale continued with its activities. The Saturday
22nd was full of activities. The day started with the presentation
of the tradition of Ayome by the villagers. We are surprised by the
organization because earlier they were not on time but every thing
have changed and regulated through the time due to their powerful
presentation. Things performed were chronologically organized according
to the tradition. The best and likely food of the region is the couscous
called Fonio. Thus everything is organized around this cereal.
Firstly the have to plant the cereal, an activity which took place
most of the time in the month of June.
Secondly comes the time of the harvest which was divided in to stages.
If all the stages are respected and well followed we will have at
the end a good Fonio
Thirdly followed the wedding ceremonies in the region. It is organized
in such a way that people are joyful to thank God by their graceful
deeds. It is to remark that the wedding in the region is concerned
practically with arranged marriage.
Finally the year ends most of the time with some special feast. We
have not to forget the presentation of how the Fonio is cooked and
how everybody enjoyed the food as it was eaten by the audience.
In the evening at 3 pm took place a beautiful football match between
some members of Kadam-Kadam and the team of the village. The match
has had an important impact on the viewers. In spite of all their
deeds the players of Kadam were unfortunately surprised by the end.
The team of the village warned the match and was very pleased. The
end of the match still very interesting and full of pleasure.
The day ends with a wonderful and emotional concert organized by the
Music Club of Kadam and some choral of the village. Even though the
concert live didn’t take place at the directed time, it was
wonderful. The Music Club of Kadam has once more surprised his audience
in number of ways. The shows were powerful and have succeeded in bringing
people together to enjoy the sweet songs of Africa music. You can’t
imagine how it is cool and beautiful to attend such a concert. We
need words to say exactly what happened that night.
On the 23rd the action of the group in the level of the education
took end. Interesting was the day due to the strong feeling of every
body. Some songs are sung together .It was the day on which some present
are given to schoolboys and some children of the village.
The happiness of every body have made us forgotten that we are getting
to the end of the festival. At the evening was the time of reforestation
and members of the group had to plant some tree.
The day after was the deal day; earlier in the morning took place
the carnival. What foulness it was? Every body was fool and behaves
according his desire. It ends with a play presented by the theatre
Club of Kadam. The Club has presented a play entitled “Le Mal
du Sang” written by the head of the association. “Le Mal
du Sang” is like the other stories and was presented by 04 actors
telling the horrible and pitiful death of Sika; the daughter of the
Gouvernor.In a vivid and realistic presentation; accompanied with
modern music instrument composed of wet guitar; a drum and some calabashes
The play is proposing to check and to put out the causes of the evil
of the century; The AIDS.
Kadam due to its researches denounce and discus with his audience
about the dram.
What even pleases me about the play is that it gives us information
about AIDS and the ways the dynamic actors have succeed in archiving
their goal.
During their staying; the Kadam has done more than what we can expect
from them. To please all the people present the association was resourceful
down to the least so that no one could find fault with anything .Thus
people will remember these days.
The Camp chantier ended but is countuning in our heart .We are together
and remain together
Wherever will be.
We are calling for all the volunteers of the world to help the Kadam-Kadam
association in their project and their research in the domain of art
and culture. We need your help; English people to achieve our goal
and you will not be surprised about what you can do for the humanity.
We have to be together and fight against the evils of the society.
